RE: Toilet Doesn't Hold Water - Causes?

Cleaning it usually works, but I have had to replace the seal. They sell a kit for it.

RE: converter/battery

As the batteries charge (if they can), the converter output may come up to normal voltage. Charging into a shorted battery will hold the voltage down. Though the dry batteries may have also taken a toll on the converter.

RE: Genset and shore power

If it's set up properly, it will either have a transfer switch or you unplug from shore power and plug into the generator. Either way you can't be connected to both at once. If they did somehow get tied together it would destroy the generator.

RE: Where can I find Pumice rocks?

Crater Lake, Or. (if there are any left, it's been 50 years since I was there).

RE: Battery charge for toad.

It takes a hot wire from the MH battery to the toad battery, with a circuit breaker at both ends.

RE: replace 2 6V with one 12V?

You say that your chassis battery is a deep cycle. It shouldn't be. It may in fact work, but it isn't the correct application. You might consider using it for the house, and replace the chassis battery with one rated for cold cranking.

RE: Shore power plug popping GFI

To figure out what circuit is causing the problem, turn all breakers off, plug into the GFI, then turn the breakers on one at a time starting with the main. When the GFI trips, turn that breaker off agin, reset the GFI and continue with rest. On my MH, it's my block heater that trips the GFI.

RE: what the heck is that??

It sounds to me like someone making a point against WM's over night parking???

RE: How far can you drive on a flat?

A friend had a flat on the front axle of his 5er, and the first he knew of it was when the front axle went under the rear one. They never did figure out exactly how it could happen, but it did. No one was near him at the time, and it stayed uprite, but based on that, I wouldn't drive any further than absolutely necessary.

RE: Guns in Alaska. (Please be nice)

As far as being in your checked luggage...this needs to be declared to the TSA. There is probably a mountain of paperwork that will need to be done. Absolutly no ammunition is allowed to be carried. Additionally the firearm needs to be in a locked hard sided gun case. Go to the TSA website and start sifting through their inofrmation and contact the airline as well. Since you are stopping in Canada that might require more paperwork. This is probably all true, but people do it all the time to hunt here.

RE: Guns in Alaska. (Please be nice)

My son moved up here from SC, and shipped his hand gun to a local gun shop, they required an Alaska drivers license to pick it up (didn't tell him that in advance). It was in his name, so only he could receive it. They don't make it easy! You can bring a rifle or shotgun on the plane, a shotgun is better bear protection anyway. How about borrowing one from your friend?

RE: Need help from the DC experts

Have you considered the possibility that the ladder was hung up on the wire feeding that circuit? Turn the switch off that feeds that light, replace the fuse, and the other parts of the circuit should work.

RE: Converter Question

The batteries could have a shorted cell causing the converter to shut down on overload and start again when the overload resets. OR The converter won't stay on long enough to replace the charge in the batteries. You need to test the batteries.

RE: Converter Problem

From the info at hand, I would suspect a bad converter, but I would check the batteries before replacing it. It may be a good time to replace both.

RE: No charge to house battieries from chassis??? Help!

Similar problem with our class C. I had to replace the solenoid (isolator). I used a Napa ST-85 solenoid as replacement and its working great. From what I learned here at rv.net, be sure to get a continous duty solenoid and not an intermittent duty one. A golf cart solenoid vs an auto starting solenoid is another way to look at it. Here's pic of the ST-85 I bought. http://www.alliedelec.com/Images/Products/Small/576-1020.jpg So if there is no isolator installed on the circuit from alternator to House batteries should you install one? Or do you interrupt the circuit from the engine batteries to the house batteries? No solenoid is visible anywhere in the electrical pathway from front end to rear in mine...It has to have something to keep you from running your starting battery dead with your furnace at nite, and still charge it with the alternator. And yes, it goes between the batteries. (ties them together when the engine is running, and seperates them when it isn't).

RE: Worry about discrimination because of little "B"

You probably wouldn't want to be around those snobs even if you had the same kind of rig. My class A is an older one, and they may think the same of me, but so what?

RE: No charge to house battieries from chassis??? Help!

A jumper cable between the pos. terminal of the starting battery and the pos. terminal of the house battery (or across the solenoid) could get you out of a bind. Just remember to remove it at nite, so you don't run the starting battery down.

RE: Furnace blowing fuses

Most likely something preventing the blower motor from turning. It could be dry bearings, but as already stated, it could be a nest of some kind. Either way, it needs to come apart.

RE: Age of RV and Electronics using SHORE POWER-THANKS FOR THE HELP!

My RV is 50 amp, and we can get by nicely on a 30 amp service. Running both AC's at once would be the only problem, but we never do that anyway.

RE: Thinking of adding docking lights

My docking lights are factory installed, high on both sides about center of the rig. I very seldom use them, though they really light up the area when I do. As for backing lights, I would want them high enough to avoid overhanging hazards.
